Abstract
Type 2 diabetes, a predominantly adult form of this disabling health condition, is one that appears increasingly present among many older adults, who are also at high risk for falls and osteoporotic as well as non-osteoporotic disabling or life threatening primary as well as secondary fractures. This article summarizes pertinent findings regarding a role for physical activity in this regard and with respect to fractures that prevail at the hip joint. We conclude moderate lifelong physical activity participation holds promise as one of several lifestyle factors that can possibly reduce type 2 diabetes risk and severity, as well as falls and hip fracture risks. Public health messaging and opportunities to counter the sedentary, passive lifestyles of many, should prove helpful in multiple tangible respects.
